I’m a children’s author and professional skating coach based in Chestermere, Alberta. I’ve spent more than 30 years on the ice and 18 years coaching, helping children build confidence, learn new skills and discover a love of skating.

Today, my work brings together the things I love most — skating, storytelling and creating experiences that encourage children to try something new.

From The Ice To the Page

After spending most of my life on the ice as a skater and coach, I brought that world into my first children’s book, When I Become an Ice Skater.

Inspired by the children I’ve coached and my own experiences introducing my children to the ice, the story takes young readers into the world of figure skating, hockey, ringette, speed skating, synchronized skating and more — celebrating all the different ways children can find their place and belong on the ice.

At its heart, it’s a story about trying something new, discovering what you love and imagining who you might become.

Coach Caitlin

Skating has been part of my life since I was three years old, and for the past 18 years, I’ve had the privilege of passing that love of the ice on to other skaters.

Through Chestermere Skating School, I work with skaters of all ages and abilities — from little ones taking their very first steps on the ice to skaters developing skills for figure skating, hockey and ringette.

My coaching focuses on strong skating fundamentals, confidence, safety and making learning fun. I believe every skater develops differently, and I love helping each one discover what they’re capable of.

A Little More About Me

When I’m not at the rink or working on a book, I’m usually creating something, spending time with my family, or dreaming up my next project.

I’ve always loved making things, which eventually grew into Miss May — my creative space for handmade bows, accessories and other fun finds.

My workspace is a pretty good reflection of my life: skating equipment and teaching supplies mixed in with books, bows and crafting machines.

They may seem like very different worlds, but they all come back to the things I love most — helping children learn, build confidence, use their imaginations and discover what they love.
